"paparazzi" by lady gaga
after all those grueling gcse exams and all of the constant revision, i received my results in august, and i'm very proud that the hard work paid off, and getting a place at chichester college for a national diploma in fashion and clothing was the cherry on the cake, i've been studying for seven months now, and it's been amazing to meet so many people that share the same passion, it's so overwhelming!
but anyway, moving on, our first project was called "exquisite corpse" and it was based on fashion designers such as alexander mcqueen and elsa schiaparelli, and on celebrity fashion icons such as lady gaga, katy perry and florence welch of florence and the machine, and it's also great to see new popstars on the block being inspired by "out the box" fashion such as rihanna, nicki minaj and jessie j, and past inspirations, such as the late freddie mercury and the flamboyant brian jones of the rolling stones.
the project also had another twist round the corner, we had to chose at a maximum of two garments from our local barnardo's charity store, and there was heaps and heaps of clothing that was either faulty or didn't sell within the space of two years, and after all the rummaging of the mountains of fabric, i managed to find a leopard/tribal style top with bright, exotic colours and an adorable little, sparkly jumper!
i then had to un-stitch all of the stitching and fastening to leave the panels of the garment and i then draped the remains on the stand to create a whole new outfit, in the end, i created a mini dress with extravagant rouging around the neckline, and i based my garment on something that katy perry would wear and i was particularly inspired by alexander mqueen, such a legend! but rather than creating a "gothic" and "dark" garment, i put my own stamp by adding lots of colour and texture.
